I’m eagerly anticipating the release of Scream Factory’s Blu-ray version of Day of the Dead, which will hopefully outdo the previous Blu-ray release.
Over at Dread Central, they have an article detailing some of the new elements of the upcoming release of George A. Romero’s 1985 classic. Included in the set are audio commentaries from both the director and his trusty makeup director Tom Savini. Also providing commentary are Production Designer Cletus Anderson and the heroine herself, Lori Cardille.
An interesting commentary addition to the release is one by filmmaker Roger Avary. You may know him best as one of the creators behind Pulp Fiction but he is also the mind by Killing Zoe and The Rules of Attraction. The only connection Avary seems to have to the Living Dead series is that his Pulp Fiction co-creator, Quentin Tarantino, use to falsely claim he worked on the set of Dawn of the Dead.
A new featurette is also on the way – this one profiling the Wampum Mines where most of the film was shot. I visited the Mines in 2012, but only briefly – it is closed to the public unless you are a customer of the company that controls the mines.
The Blu-ray is slated for release on September 17th.
