Quite the disappointment, but not without some funny scenes, 22 Jump Street is obviously self-aware of the moviemaking industry, and a huge chunk of the storyline is devoted to tearing down the facade of the sequel. But are directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord just replacing the genuine humor of the first installment with a bunch of wink-nodding, self-referential dialogue that is not as witty as they think it is? Absolutely. Channing Tatum continues to be impressive while Jonah Hill mails another performance in, and while 21 Jump Street had a great cast of supporting characters, the only person even remotely interesting is Jillian Bell. I think it’s time for the entire cast and crew to jump their asses off of Jump Street because the magic is over.
