For all the controversy surrounding the film – most of the blame can be leveled at the mind-blowingly ridiculous response by Sony Pictures – it is my job to look at the film on its merits alone. With that being said, there’s not much to like within this Rogen/Franco comedy: the plot is paper-thin, the humor is often repetitive, and, sorry to say, James Franco is absolutely atrocious throughout. The last one is the most distracting part of The Interview because it feels like he’s acting in a completely different movie, thusly taking you right out of whatever scene he is ruining. Rogen’s had limited success recently (This Is The End was one of his better films), so it begs the question of whether or not that well has run dry. As for The Interview, it doesn’t surprise me that the film that touched off an international debate is also fucking terrible.
