If you are looking for a movie concerned with mixing history and fantasy, this is not your movie. The people making Dracula Untold start off slightly interested in fleshing out Vlad The Impaler, but soon that is abandoned for a bunch of silly CGI and a couple of underwhelming action sequences. For someone who thought the beginning of Bram Stoker’s Dracula was awesome compared to the rest of the picture, I think that Dracula Untold‘s creators made a huge mistake in not making Vlad more of a man of the people than a man who is a cluster of bats. Luke Evans, despite the screenplay he was handed, does an admirable job with the character, but ultimately, the slapdash approach to the plot lets him and the audience down.
